This video demonstrates the insertion of a biodegradable subacromial balloon spacer for a patient with a massive, irreparable rotator cuff. The device is currently undergoing evaluation for clinical use in a FDA investigation device exemption trial. The balloon is inserted arthroscopically into the subacromial space and inflated with saline to depress the humeral head and restore glenohumeral joint biomechanics. The balloon begins to degrade approximately 2-3 months postoperatively and fully degrades within 12 months.
