Chapter 33 Video 1: Shoulder Arthroscopy: Bankart and SLAP Repair

January 05, 2018

Contributors: Robert A Arciero, MD; Augustus D Mazzocca, MD, MS

This video demonstrates the repair of a Bankart tear with an all arthroscopic technique. Double loaded suture anchors are used in the repair, and the patient is in the lateral decubitus position. Portals established and diagnostic arthroscopy performed, the labrum is mobile and prepared for repair. Three double loaded anchor sutures are inserted and deployed, the sutures are shuttled and retrieved, and knots tied. Next the anterior SLAP component is addressed, then the superior Bankart portion, then the posterior portion of the SLAP tear. Upon final evaluation, the humeral head is centered nicely on the glenoid. The should is clinically evaluated through a range of motion, and rehabilitation protocol is discussed.
