Orthopaedic practices that use the AAOS Placement Center during the Annual Meeting give the venue and the service high marks. According to last year’s participants, it’s a “great service—very helpful…well run and organized…comfortable and conveniently located…so helpful.”
If you plan to use the AAOS Placement Center during Annual Meeting, the following tips will help you find the ideal orthopaedic surgeon to fill the vacancy in your practice. Remember, the Placement Center staff is always available to answer your questions.
During Annual Meeting, the Job Seekers and Practice Opportunities books are updated on a daily basis. These books contain only the listings of attendees at the AAOS Annual Meeting who have checked in with the Placement Center. The books are delivered to the Placement Center each morning by 7:30 a.m.
Connecting with candidates
The contact information on the candidate profile is also a good way to reach prospective employees. Take advantage of the self-service Academy Connections kiosks (computer stations) located throughout the Moscone Convention Center to leave short messages for prospective candidates. You may also leave messages at the Placement Center. You may want to include your cell phone number in your ad so candidates can reach you more easily.
Be sure to check the kiosks on a regular basis for replies from candidates or for other messages. The computers contain information on the attendee’s registration status.
Remember, however, that the messages you send or receive are not confidential. Save negotiating details for face-to-face meetings.
Reserve an interview booth at the Placement Center when you have a confirmed interview time. Because the booths are in high demand, reserve your time as soon as you have a confirmed appointment. The sign-up sheet is at the reception desk.
Your search starts here
Your search for outstanding, qualified candidates can start at the AAOS Annual Meeting and continue throughout the entire year. The online Placement Service (www.aaos.org/placement) is available to members looking for a position and to registered users of Practice Opportunities.
If you have a Practice Opportunities listing, you will receive a customer identification number, which also serves as your password for the Placement Service Web site. Academy members may use their membership number to gain access to the job listings.
Web listings are advertised for one year. The April 2008 issue of Job Seekers will contain all listings obtained at the 2008 Annual Meeting; listings will be available online the week of March 10.
The Placement Service is one of the most popular member services offered by the Academy. Submit your listing before 3 p.m., and we will do our utmost to include it in the following day’s book.
