CEO, Playground Builds Honored
For her “outstanding service and accomplishments in association management, AAOS Chief Executive Officer Karen L. Hackett, FACHE, CAE, was recently honored with the 2009 Samuel B. Shapiro Award for CEO Excellence. The annual award from the Association Forum of Chicagoland was presented to Ms. Hackett at a gala attended by AAOS leadership and staff.
“My role as the CEO is to facilitate and make the best of the partnership we have between our volunteer leaders and our very talented staff,” said Ms. Hackett. “This award really belongs to the wonderful people with whom I work every day to get things done.”
“It was evident to all of those present that Karen was so very well deserving of this award,” said AAOS President Joseph D. Zuckerman, MD. “She was recognized by her peers for the excellence she has brought to the association CEO position.”
Spirit of Excellence
The Academy’s decade-long efforts to build safe, accessible playgrounds in its Annual Meeting host cities was recognized earlier this year when the AAOS received a 2008 Modern Healthcare Spirit of Excellence Award.
“We are proud of the 10 Safe and Accessible Playgrounds we have built and left as legacies to the host cities of our Annual Meeting,” said Sandra R. Gordon, AAOS director of public relations. “Orthopaedic surgeons, industry partners, and local communities have worked together to make sure that all children, including those with disabilities, can play together safely.”
