Take advantage of online options from the AAOS
The year is rolling to a close, and if you’re short on continuing medical education (CME) credits, the Academy offers a number of online options for you to acquire the credits you need.
Orthopaedic Knowledge Online
As an Academy member, you have complimentary access to the Orthopaedic Knowledge Online Web site. OKO offers hundreds of credit hours of online CME activities based on clinical topics covered on the site. Topics span the entire range of orthopaedic specialties, and you can earn 1 to 4 CME credit hours per module. In addition to OKO-based CME, the site also offers access to past webinars, to the Journal of the AAOS (JAAOS) CME opportunities, and to some free CME activities.
Webinars
The Academy’s popular webinars are a convenient way to earn CME. You can participate in a live program or view an archived recording online. For a listing of upcoming events, visit the online CME Course Calendar.
Past webinars can be found on the OKO Web site under Continuing Medical Education. Each webinar offers from 1.5 to 2 CME credits, and some webinars are free to members.
JAAOS CME
Earn credits for reading the yellow journal! Since April, JAAOS readers have had the opportunity to earn up to 10 AMA PRA Category 1 CME™ credits. Each quarter, a new 50-question self-assessment exam is added in the Continuing Medical Education area of OKO.
Self-assessment examinations
The Academy offers 11 self-assessment examinations in online formats. These can be taken as Self-Scored with immediate access to answers or as Scored and Recorded. For details on the 10 Orthopaedic Special Interest Examinations and the 2008 Orthopaedic Self-Assessment Examination, visit www.aaos.org/exams
These products are not limited to an online format. Print versions are available for purchase through the Academy’s online store or through AAOS Customer Service at (800) 626-6726.
AAOS transcript service
The AAOS offers a free transcript service that automatically logs CME credits that you’ve earned through Academy-sponsored courses, multimedia programs, and exams. View your transcript.
Did you earn CME from other sources? You can add it to the online record but you must retain your documentation from those organizations. Visit the transcript service.
With the Dec. 15 CME deadline for Maintenance of Certification (MOC) fast approaching, be sure to visit the ABOS online for the requirements and deadlines specific to your certification date.
