Resident Opportunity in Health Policy

The American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) is currently accepting applications for the 2013 AAOS Washington Health Policy Fellowship Program. The fellowship provides an outstanding opportunity for exceptional senior orthopaedic residents and fellows-in-training with an interest in healthcare policy to take part in and understand federal health policy processes. Fellows actively contribute to the formulation of national health policies and accelerate their careers as leaders in health policy.

The program funds up to two orthopaedic residents per year and provides them with the opportunity to work in the legislative and regulatory arenas for a multiweek period during a 12-month timeframe. Although the program is flexible, it does require a considerable time commitment. Attendance at some AAOS meetings, such as the National Orthopaedic Leadership Conference, is required.

The AAOS Office of Government Relations will work with the selected applicants to design a flexible program that meets the fellow’s needs, interests, and schedules. The application deadline is Jan. 5, 2013. Questions should be directed to Graham Newson, associate director of the AAOS office of government relations, at newson@aaos.org
