New system makes it simple and easy to switch your username
James A. Ogle
In July 2010, the AAOS upgraded its association software—a necessary move to enable us to continue to provide quality service to members. But the process required resetting all existing member usernames to their AAOS member ID (without the leading zeroes).
Many members did not want to memorize another username and instead wanted the option to change their username to something more personal and easily remembered—perhaps one used for multiple websites.
Although the AAOS customer service department can change a member’s username upon request, the AAOS Technology Project Team chaired by Mininder S. Kocher, MD, MPH, felt strongly that an online, self-service method for doing this should be developed. The project team provided funding for the system, which was implemented in early January by the AAOS information services group.
Now, you can change your username in the following two ways:
- To have customer service change your username, call toll-free: 1-800-626-6726.
- To do it yourself, go to www.aaos.org/myaccount and login, using your AAOS member ID number. Then select the “Change Username or Password” link in the left-hand column. Usernames are not case sensitive and must be at least four characters in length. Letters, numbers, and special characters are accepted.
This is an easy process that enables you to change your username as frequently as you like. If you have questions, please feel free to contact me directly by phone or email.
