Members Endorse 9 AAOS Resolutions

AAOS fellows casting ballots were overwhelmingly supportive of all AAOS resolutions in 2013. Fellows were asked to vote on two new Academy resolutions as well as on two Academy resolutions being considered under the 5-year review process. They also considered five Association resolutions under the 5-year review process.

At the time of the 2013 balloting, the AAOS had 23,403 active, emeritus, and inactive fellows eligible to vote. Ballots and information on voting were delivered by email, fax, and U.S. Postal Service, and fellows were also able to review issues and vote on the AAOS website.

For the initial balloting, which ended on May 24, 19 percent of eligible fellows had voted. Because the bylaws require that at least 20 percent of the fellowship vote for resolutions to be adopted, the AAOS Board of Directors authorized reopening the ballot process for an additional 30-day period, June 24–July 24. With the reopening of the balloting, a total of 5,159 valid ballots were received, for a 22 percent response rate.

All nine AAOS resolutions were adopted, and no measure received less than a 95 percent approval rate (Table 1). The complete text of the resolutions can found below.
