The new AAOS Evidence-Based Medicine (EBM) electronic newsletter enables AAOS members to stay up-to-date on what’s happening in EBM. The newsletter provides information on the progress of clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), appropriate use criteria, and other EBM initiatives, along with links that make it easy for AAOS members to volunteer to participate in EBM projects.
The monthly newsletter will include updates on AAOS and non-AAOS member opportunities to get involved in AAOS quality products. Volunteer opportunities may include participating as a work group member, in peer or public review of a CPG or systematic reviews (SR), or by suggesting orthopaedic disease topics for CPGs and SRs or questions that are important to practitioners or patients that can be used to mold the scope of CPGs and SRs.
“We wanted to increase communication on AAOS quality products among interested parties,” said Deborah Cummins, PhD, director of the AAOS department of research & scientific affairs. “It’s part of our efforts to increase transparency of our methodologies and timelines. We also hope the newsletter will increase collaboration among AAOS, its members, patients, and relevant organizations interested in volunteering to help enhance our quality products.
Anyone interested in orthopaedic evidence-based quality products can subscribe to the newsletter. Simply email ebm@aaos.org with “subscribe” in the subject line. To read the newsletter online, visit www.aaos.org/ebmnewsletter
