Team STEPPS is a program designed by the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) and the Department of Defense to promote effective teamwork in health care. This program is based on crew resource management principles and incorporates extensive evidence on human factors, structured communication, team leadership, and best practices to promote optimal team performance.
Master Trainers John S. Webster, MD, MBA, MSEL, and William J. Richardson, MD, (Duke University) will conduct the training session. Sessions on “teach backs” and coaching techniques will also be held. At the conclusion of this course, attendees will be capable of conducting the “Team STEPPS Fundamentals” workshops for multidisciplinary surgical care teams. Attendees will be expected to become champions in their home facilities, as well as being willing to conduct the “Fundamentals” workshops for other facilities.
