Participate in AAOE Benchmarking Survey

The American Association of Orthopaedic Executives (AAOE) Benchmarking Survey is now open, and participation by AAOS members is welcomed. The survey was recently modernized, resulting in substantial increases in participation. That means more accurate data on a wide range of metrics for orthopaedic practices.

New Features
The online portal has been replaced with an Excel spreadsheet. No more wondering if the information and data correspond; no more concern about completing the survey in one sitting. Participants can simply copy and paste data into the spreadsheet whenever time permits. When all data are entered, simply upload the spreadsheet.

Also brand new for this year are deep-dive interactive analytics. Survey participants can drill down on any data they want to compare their practices with others by region, state, city size, practice size, ancillaries, compensation, and more. Data can be easily exported into Excel spreadsheets for further manipulation or sharing with others in the practice.

Because data security may be a concern for some practices, the AAOE has taken steps to protect practice data. All practice data is protected through a third-party vendor that specializes in benchmarking. No one has access to a specific practice’s information but that practice. Those accessing the data cannot drill down below a four-practice sample size on any data. AAOE also has a confidentiality agreement with the vendor to ensure data is not released.

Participation and reach
The number of practices, orthopaedic surgeons, and full-time employees (FTEs) covered by the data continue to increase. From 2012 to 2013, the number of practices covered increased by 32 percent; the number of orthopaedic surgeons by 122 percent, and the number of FTEs by 114 percent.

The AAOE Benchmarking Committee expects continued growth for the 2014 data year survey, which is open now. For more information, contact AAOE at info@aaoe.net or call 800-247-9699. A prorated membership is just $165 for 2015.
