The National Institutes of Health (NIH) has developed a student loan repayment program for investigators who are performing scientific research and whose efforts lead to advancing the health of the nation. The NIH Loan Repayment Program may pay up to $35,000 of student loan debt per year, if participants commit at least 2 years to conducting research in the following areas:
- clinical research
- pediatric research
- health disparities research
- contraception and fertility research
- clinical research for individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds
