Make Advocacy a Part of Your Annual Meeting Experience

Are you interested in advocacy? If not, you should be. Now more than ever, many legislative issues central to orthopaedic practice and the orthopaedic profession as a whole are at stake. Whether you are a seasoned veteran or advocacy novice, plan to take advantage of the following opportunities at the 2016 Annual Meeting in Orlando next month.

AAOS Advocacy Booth
Be sure to stop by the Advocacy Booth sponsored by the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) to enhance your understanding of the regulatory and legislative issues confronting orthopaedic surgeons. At the booth, you can learn more about the AAOS Office of Government Relations' (OGR) work to support the orthopaedic specialty in the U.S. Congress and the statehouses. You'll also have the opportunity to chat with knowledgeable OGR staff and physician advocacy leaders, renew your support in the AAOS Political Action Committee (Orthopaedic PAC), and take action on top legislative issues affecting your patients and practice.

The AAOS Advocacy Booth will be open between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., March 2–3, and between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., March 4. The booth is located in Hall WA, Booth #2137, at the Orange County Convention Center, West Building.

AAOS Orthopaedic PAC donor lounge
Last year, orthopaedics celebrated many legislative successes, including the repeal of the flawed Medicare sustainable growth rate, the blanket hardship exemption from meaningful use penalties in 2015, and the securing of more than $30 million in annual Department of Defense orthopaedic research grants. Your support and active participation in our Orthopaedic PAC were instrumental in these successes. Let us show our appreciation! Visit the Orthopaedic PAC donor lounge to relax and take a break during the meeting, charge your iPad, enjoy complimentary beverages and snacks, and visit with other PAC members and AAOS staff.

The AAOS Orthopaedic PAC donor lounge will be open to all 2016 Orthopaedic PAC donors (membership ribbon required) between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., March 2–3, and between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., March 4. The lounge is located in Hall WA, Booth #2137, Orange County Convention Center, West Building.

2016 Orthopaedic PAC Luncheon
Former Gov. Rick Perry will address 2015-2016 AAOS Orthopaedic PAC members at the annual PAC luncheon on March 2, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room W224, Orange County Convention Center, West Building. Seating is limited. To confirm your attendance, please RSVP by Feb. 24 to Katrina Wallace at rsvp@aaos.org

New for 2016! Orthopaedic PAC Resident Networking Reception
Orthopaedic residents represent the future of the AAOS. The Orthopaedic PAC has made it a top priority to educate early and often on AAOS advocacy efforts. To continue to foster this growth, we're pleased to announce the first Orthopaedic PAC Resident Networking Reception. The reception, which will enable residents to network with influential advocacy leaders, will be held on March 3, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in Plaza International Ballroom K, Hyatt Regency Orlando. The reception is free to attend, but noncontributors to the PAC must donate a nominal amount for drink tickets and their membership in the PAC.
