The AAOS is currently working on the following three clinical practice guidelines (CPGs), one systematic literature review (a product similar to a CPG), and two appropriate use criteria (AUC).
CPGs/systematic literature review
Management of Osteoarthritis of the Hip CPG
This guideline is currently in the public comment stage and is expected to be released in early 2017. The work group includes clinicians representing the AAOS, American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons (AAHKS), American College of Radiology, American Physical Therapy Association (APTA), The Hip Society, Limb Lengthening and Reconstruction Society, and the Pediatric Orthopaedic Society of North America (POSNA).
Management of Rotator Cuff Injuries CPG
The work group for this CPG is meeting in early 2017 to formulate its PICO (Patient/Population/Problem, Intervention, Comparison, Outcome) questions. The work group includes clinicians representing the AAOS, American Academy of Family Physicians, APTA, American College of Sports Medicine, American Society of Shoulder and Elbow Therapists, and the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM).
Management of Periprosthetic Joint Infections CPG
The work group has formulated its PICO questions, and the literature review has begun. This guideline is expected to be released in early 2018. The work group includes clinicians representing the AAOS, The Knee Society, The Hip Society, AAHKS, Society of Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging, College of American Pathologists, American College of Radiology, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Society of Microbiology, and Infectious Diseases Society of America.
Management of Postoperative Surgical Site Infections CPG
The literature review is under way and the work group is expected to meet in mid-2017 to formulate the final recommendations for this evidence review. The work group includes clinicians from the AAOS, AOSSM, The Hip Society, American College of Radiology, APTA, Infectious Diseases Society of America, Musculoskeletal Infection Society, Orthopaedic Trauma Association, and POSNA.
AUCs
Management of Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip AUC
The writing panel for this AUC is currently being assembled. This AUC is based on the 2014 CPG on the Detection and Nonoperative Management of Pediatric Developmental Dysplasia of the Hip in Infants Up to 6 Months of Age.
Management of Osteoarthritis of the Hip AUC
The writing panel for this AUC is currently being assembled. This AUC is based on the yet-to-be released CPG on the Management of Osteoarthritis of the Hip.
