JAAOS Global Research & Reviews Indexed by PubMed Central®

JAAOS Global Research & Reviews is the official open access journal of AAOS and sister publication to the Journal of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (JAAOS). Also known as JAAOS Global or the Blue Journal, the Academy’s newest open access journal launched its first issue in March 2017. Open access means that, after double-blinded peer review and acceptance of a manuscript, the author pays an article processing charge so that the article is available worldwide online, without barriers such as a subscription.

Under the direction of Editor-in-Chief Jeffrey S. Fischgrund, MD, JAAOS Global is a natural extension of JAAOS, which is led by Editor-in-Chief William N. Levine, MD. JAAOS Global receives a growing number of direct submissions but also benefits from articles—predominately research manuscripts—that are cascaded from JAAOS. Approximately 90 articles will have been published in JAAOS Global by the end of 2018.

The JAAOS Research section has grown steadily since it began in December 2015. The opportunity to cascade important research manuscripts to JAAOS Global has become an extension of JAAOS for research articles that are academically sound but do not meet the journal’s scope and focus. Many authors welcome this opportunity to be part of the JAAOS family of journals and accept the transfer to JAAOS Global. Several authors who choose to publish in open access journals have received funding for their research and are mandated to publish any research resulting from such grants in an open access journal. There are now more than 900 open access mandates from funders and institutions, including the Howard Hughes Medical Institute in the United States and the Wellcome Trust (U.K.).

The recent news that JAAOS Global has been accepted for indexing in PubMed Central® (PMC) was a long-expected milestone that will coincide with the two-year anniversary of the journal’s launch. The indexing will allow for the journal’s continued growth and its ability to receive more international submissions.

“This is exciting news for the Academy’s international membership that is eager to publish in the Academy’s own open access journal,” said Dr. Fischgrund. “It is an additional opportunity for researchers to gain exposure with our readership in a quality Academy-branded journal.”

PMC will index all JAAOS Global articles going forward, as well as all past articles. For JAAOS Global submission information, visit www.editorialmanager.com/jaaosglobal/default.aspx.
