AAOS Nominating Committee Announces 2019 Slate

On Nov. 13, the 2019 Nominating Committee, chaired by third past-president David D. Teuscher, MD, announced its slate of nominees. The release was timed to correspond to bylaw amendments adopted by the fellowship after the 2010 Annual Meeting.

In addition to Dr. Teuscher, the 2019 Nominating Committee included Sara L. Edwards, MD; Richard J. Hawkins, MD; Lawrence S. Halperin, MD, Board of Councilors/Board of Specialty Societies representative; John D. Kelly IV, MD; William M. Ricci, MD; Richard H. Rothman, MD (deceased); and Jennifer M. Weiss, MD.

The committee was charged with identifying and recommending candidates for the following offices: second vice-president, member-at-large (no age designation), member-at-large (younger than age 45); and four nominees along with two alternate nominees to the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS).

AAOS is blessed with a number of highly qualified individuals willing to serve in a limited number of important leadership positions. The number of nominees for leadership positions this year remained high, with 46 individuals submitting information and allowing themselves to be considered for office and 16 individuals submitting information to be considered for nomination to the ABOS Board of Directors.

After an expansive search process, the development of plans for active management of conflicts of interest, and extensive discussion, the 2019 Nominating Committee recommended the following individuals to serve in the specified AAOS leadership positions:

  • second vice-president: Daniel K. Guy, MD (Ga.)
  • member-at-large (no age designation): James R. Ficke, MD (Md.)
  • member-at-large (younger than age 45): Rachel Y. Goldstein, MD, MPH (Calif.)
  • nominees to the ABOS: Martin I. Boyer, MD (Mo.); Dawn LaPorte, MD (Md.); Charles L. Nelson, MD (Pa.); Robert C. Schenck, MD (N.M.); Bruce V. Darden II, MD (N.C.) (alternate); Michael D. Daubs, MD (Nev.) (alternate)

The AAOS fellowship will have the opportunity to vote on the recommendations during the business meeting of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons on March 14, 2019, at 9:30 a.m. during the AAOS 2019 Annual Meeting in Las Vegas.
