On July 27, the AAOS Communications Cabinet spent the day at AAOS headquarters in Rosemont, Ill., focusing on you, the Academy membership. Our goal is to support you throughout your careers as you care for patients.
By now, many of you have entered the age of social media. But are you aware that AAOS has a social media presence? Did you know that AAOS posts content daily that promotes orthopaedics, including the work that we do to improve patients’ quality of life, as well as content that educates patients on various orthopaedic conditions and available treatment options? These platforms are also used to promote the Academy’s Annual Meeting, educational courses, Clinical Practice Guidelines, appropriate use criteria, AAOS Now articles, and advocacy issues. To help expand the reach of these topics, AAOS invites you to become social media champions and share this content on your personal social media pages. This simple act will help increase the reach and influence of our specialty.
AAOS is active on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn, with both a public- and member-facing presence. I encourage you to follow AAOS on these platforms for the latest Academy news. I also encourage you to follow your peers. As individual surgeons, we have voices in our offices and among our social circles. Social media are powerful tools that can help promote orthopaedic surgeons as experts of musculoskeletal care to the medical community and our patients. They enable us to reach thousands of people and amplify one another in support and unity of our expertise.
Let’s continue to build the orthopaedic community—one follow, one share, and one like at a time. The AAOS Communications and Marketing Department is ready to help with tips on how to incorporate social media into your practice. Email media@aaos.org with any questions you may have.
Follow AAOS on social media: Search “AAOS” on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn to find us: @AAOS1, @AAOSmembers, and @AAOSadvocacy.
