PAC Corner

The Orthopaedic Political Action Committee (PAC) supports candidates for federal office who champion orthopaedic issues and help advance the legislative agenda of AAOS. In late November 2018, the OrthoPAC cohosted the 9th Annual Specialty Physician and Dentist Candidate Workshop in Washington, D.C. Developed to educate and train physicians and dentists interested in running for public office, particularly those who utilize the medical community to enhance support across multiple specialties, the workshop welcomed approximately 50 attendees.

Highlights from the workshop include:

Congresswoman-elect Kim Schrier, MD (D-Wash.), whom the Orthopaedic PAC supported in the 2018 midterm election, delivered the workshop’s keynote address.

Guest speakers included experts in the campaign arena, including pollsters, campaign managers, fundraisers, and media gurus.

Breakout sessions explored campaign case studies and best practices aimed at leveraging health professionals’ commitment to public service at all levels of government.
