How the AAOS Office of Government Relations (OGR) is working for you …
- Voiced strong support for the newly introduced Hospital Competition Act of 2019. The bill combats the rising cost of health care by increasing choice among hospital providers, and it addresses several AAOS priorities, including lifting restrictions on physician-owned hospitals, discouraging hospital consolidation and certificate of need laws, expanding site neutral payments, and increasing price transparency.
- Celebrated the Orthopaedic Political Action Committee’s (PAC) 20th birthday on Feb. 6.
- Secured unprecedented guidance from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services to help resolve confusion regarding the removal of total knee arthroplasty from the Medicare inpatient-only list. AAOS requested the educational resource when the policy was finalized in 2018 and was told that the new guidance is a direct result of the AAOS OGR’s request.
- Presented solutions, in coordination with state orthopaedic societies, to end the surprise insurance gap resulting from balance billing for out-of-network services delivered at in-network hospitals. The solutions include significantly improving network adequacy requirements, exempting emergency services, and expanding key patient protections.
