The AAOS Annual Meeting convenes the global orthopaedic community for 5 powerful days of education, innovation, and collaboration. Now is the time to begin making your plans in earnest to attend the 2024 Annual Meeting in San Francisco, Feb. 12 to 16. Meeting registration and the full educational program become available at aaos.org/annual on Oct.18.
This year’s meeting promises you a cutting-edge, VIP experience, featuring educational opportunities, networking prospects, and access to the latest orthopaedic innovations and technologies. The Annual Meeting Committee, chaired by Matthew T. Provencher, MD, CAPT MC USNR, MBA, FAAOS, received a superb response to its call for abstracts and applications earlier this year. The program that AAOS members are invited to experience in San Francisco reflects the highest-quality and most exciting advancements in the field.
“One of our goals is to continue to reinvent and reimagine this meeting,” says Dr. Provencher. “How we engage with education and our learning styles evolves, and we at the Academy are working to stay a step ahead to provide you with the best experience possible. We want you to come to this meeting and get a super high-impact educational experience that’s focused and tailored exactly to your needs.”
Shift in meeting dates
One way the AAOS 2024 meeting will differ from past years is where it falls on the calendar. Not only will the meeting be held earlier than usual in 2024—in February rather than March—but it will also span different days of the week. All programming will take place Monday through Friday rather than the traditional Tuesday through Saturday.
This shift has been made following careful consideration of attendee feedback from past years and with the goal of creating the optimal attendee experience. It will allow those who have family and personal obligations to attend to them; help attendees avoid weekend travel; and get you home to your practice rested, energized, and ready to deliver next-level patient care. It also will free you up to take full advantage of all San Francisco and the surrounding area have to offer.
San Francisco: a meeting destination like no other
San Francisco, known for its iconic landmarks, cultural diversity, and picturesque beauty, is the perfect setting for the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting. Since the Academy last held its Annual Meeting in San Francisco at the Moscone Center 12 years ago, the venue has undergone a notable $551 million expansion program. This renovation ensures a state-of-the-art environment that accommodates the needs of our growing orthopaedic community and provides a fitting space to showcase the latest advancements in the field. The mayor’s office and San Francisco Convention and Visitors Bureau are going above and beyond to ensure a safe and impactful event for all attendees and their guests.
A curated, VIP education experience
The education program at the AAOS 2024 Annual Meeting will span 5 days, Monday through Friday. AAOS educational programming will take place Monday through Thursday, and Specialty Society Programs will take place Friday.
The best place to browse the full program is within the AAOS Annual Meeting Mobile App. There you can easily access the full education program and create personalized schedules. Advanced filtering options enable quick searches based on event type, specialty area, and more, ensuring attendees can make the most of their time at the meeting. You can also use the app to purchase tickets to a wide selection of Instructional Course Lecture offerings, as well as add Specialty Society Programs to your existing meeting registration.
AAOS members pay a significantly discounted registration rate of $210 (compared to $1,435 for nonmember physicians). That registration comes with access to a full program of learning options, including panel discussions, debates, and guest speakers—including Presidential Guest Speaker Sanjay Gupta, MD, the renowned CNN correspondent—as well as self-directed learning opportunities such as posters, the Orthopaedic Video Theater, and more. Again this year, a selection of sessions will be presented in Spanish. Additionally, the program will offer attendees a convenient way to fulfill hours toward the new requirement for all U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration–registered practitioners to complete training on the treatment and management of patients with opioid and other substance use disorders. Finally, OrthoDome® will return to the meeting this year, even bigger and better.
Since its debut at the AAOS 2022 Annual Meeting, OrthoDome has delivered attendees a one-of-a-kind, high-definition surgical video experience. The state-of-the-art OrthoDome theater is your destination to see and learn from the experts on how they really do their surgeries and handle both easy and tough problems.
“OrthoDome is amazing,” Dr. Provencher said. “Sessions are designed so that you can get an immersive, 4K experience that brings you up close and personal, like you’re right in the surgery. There’s really nothing like it.”
At the AAOS 2024 meeting in San Francisco, OrthoDome will span 3 full days of the education program and feature a number of sessions covering each major orthopaedic subspecialty topic. This new learning format has generated enormous positive feedback from 2022 and 2023 meeting-goers, and it is sure to deliver another must-see lineup of speakers and surgical video education content in San Francisco.
Exhibit Hall to feature latest orthopaedic technologies
The bustling AAOS Annual Meeting Exhibit Hall will be open from Tuesday through Thursday. It is the best destination to get up-close, hands-on experience with the most recent orthopaedic innovations and technologies. Happy Hour in the Hall is a must-attend event, providing an atmosphere to connect with colleagues, enjoy libations, and witness in-booth presentations (with drinks on AAOS).
An unrivaled Annual Meeting experience
At a time when so many CME options exist, one key element of the AAOS Annual Meeting sets it apart and makes it the orthopaedic event of the year, every year: the experience of immersing yourself in a comprehensive educational program and showcase of innovation, surrounded by esteemed colleagues and friends from around the globe. You simply have to be there—live and in-person—to experience it for yourself.
“Every year, we are adding more and more to the Annual Meeting to keep expanding your experience,” Dr. Provencher said. “It doesn’t matter what your specialty is. We’re all in this together as orthopaedic surgeons and orthopaedic musculoskeletal specialists who are trying to do better for our community and better for our patients, and there is no better venue than AAOS for us to connect.”
