  • AAOS International Scholars Program Advances Orthopaedic Care Worldwide

    Since its inception in 2002, the AAOS International Scholars Program has enabled more than 100 orthopaedic surgeons from countries with limited resources to receive the critical surgical training they can’t get at home. Scholarship recipients attend hands-on surgical skills cadaveric courses of their choice taught by leading orthopaedic surgeons at the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC) in Rosemont, Ill. They also take part in observerships at U.S.

    Nicaragua is the largest country in Central America, with a population of 6.1 million people. A period of war and economic decline in the 1980s has been followed by one of reforms and stabilization, gradually improving the lives and health of the people. However, Nicaragua is still a poor country with very limited resources available for health care.

    Building Orthopaedics: The Foundation for Our Future Capital Campaign has been the shared vision of the AAOS, Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), and the Orthopaedic Learning Center (OLC) to build a new orthopaedic headquarters. This facility is now the home of an expanded state-of-the art OLC and the staff and operations for 25 orthopaedic organizations.
