This past year, the Academy prioritized world-class education, innovation, and quality resources to elevate clinical skills, while advocating for policy issues that affect orthopaedic patients and fostering a diverse, equitable and inclusive culture.
The 2023 Annual Report celebrates these accomplishments and more, demonstrating the power and dedication of the orthopaedic community as we look towards the future of value-based healthcare together.
2023 Highlights and Accomplishments
- The Resident Orthopaedic Core Knowledge (ROCK) program had unprecedented adoption rates across the United States.
- The Board Prep and Review course had the highest attendance of the year with 255 attendees.
- OrthoPAC raised over $1.7 million to provide orthopaedic surgeons with a voice in the decisions made in Washington, D.C. Volunteers wrote 921 letters to policy makers during Orthopaedic Advocacy Week to help advance advocacy efforts related to musculoskeletal care.
- AAOS piloted a program to make membership more accessible and affordable to surgeons in low-income countries.
- Membership became more inclusive by expanding to categories including Medical Students, Affiliate Orthopaedic Surgeons and Orthopaedic Team Members.
- The Diversity Advisory Board executed a variety of new initiatives focused on leader recruitment, selection, retention, and culture.
- Twenty 2023 IDEA Grant Program recipients were awarded a total of $200,000.
- The AAOS PROMs in Practice portfolio launched to help members navigate the transition to value-based healthcare and patient-reported outcomes data.
- More than 3.8 million procedures were collected across five orthopaedic registries and more than 40 publications cited AAOS Registry Program data.
