Health & Safety

The safety and wellbeing of the orthopaedic community is our number one priority, and especially when planning our largest in-person event of the year, the AAOS Annual Meeting. That is why part of the Academy’s Annual Meeting preparedness planning includes a robust approach to health and safety protocols.

Like other AAOS Annual Meetings, AAOS is working closely with our longtime security consultant—as well as our partners at San Francisco Travel and the City of San Francisco, including Moscone Center, hotels and the San Francisco Police Department—to ensure a safe and positive meeting experience for all attendees. Aspects of this plan include:

  • The presence of additional San Francisco staff, security and volunteer ambassadors (see below) to help direct attendees and answer questions or concerns.
  • Street cleaning measures in the areas surrounding the convention center and nearby hotels.
  • Shuttle service between provided between most AAOS hotels and the convention center has been expanded to 48 AAOS hotels. The 10 hotels withoutu shuttle service are within a four block radius of the convention center. View a list of shuttle routes.

Additionally, San Francisco Travel has put together this guide to highlight general safety tips while in the city.

The San Francisco Welcome Ambassadors Program is a two-year investment funded by the City and County of San Francisco and endorsed by San Francisco Mayor London Breed to help welcome visitors and workers back to downtown and to several key tourism destinations.

Welcome Ambassadors will provide a friendly welcome to visitors and commuters/workers, offer directions and wayfinding, and answer general questions about key tourist attractions in the area. The San Francisco Welcome Ambassadors are on duty 7 days a week with a varied schedule. This map with their general locations is available for your reference.
