How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
I’ve met both past and current mentors, all of whom have significantly impacted my career through AAOS. The Annual Meeting is one of my favorite meetings to meet my colleagues, past mentors, and friends from around the world. I remember when Kristy Weber, the first female president of AAOS, gave a breakthrough speech in 2019. It was a memorable event for me because it embraced diversity and inclusivity within our professional culture.

As an Affiliate Orthopaedic Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I love to read the Yellow Journal and JBJS because they provide the latest scientific advances in the field.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
I recently thought of a favorite Mark Twain quote, “Anger is an acid that can do more harm to the vessel in which it is stored than to anything on which it is poured.”. It reminded me to not carry, or embody anger because our critically important relationships, with ourselves and with others, are built and grown with patience, and empathy.

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I use a 1-5 scale to prioritize my long and short-term goals, and I actively review them to track progress and modify them, as needed. I also avoid getting distracted by emails and social media so I can focus on having collaborative conversations.

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Laughter!

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I enjoy running in half (and full) marathons, studying languages, traveling, reading, and spending time outdoors with Sir Windsor, my Welsh Corgi.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I love to immerse myself in Japanese culture by speaking the language with others, especially during annual, professional trips. These trips can provide a unique sense of vulnerability given the distance from home.
