How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
AAOS has provided me with the opportunity to create professional relationships with other allied orthopedic health professionals that I otherwise would not have had the chance to connect with. AAOS has additionally offered me supportive resources that have assisted in enhancing my orthopedic knowledge, promoting an overall enhancement in my clinical and first assistant skill set. I believe that this has helped me overall become a better provider for my patients and a more confident and dependable assistant for my supervising orthopedic surgeon.
As an Allied member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I tend to gravitate towards resources in which I can dive deeper into improving my orthopedic skills set. I have found that I thoroughly enjoy and quite often refer to AAOS’ Orthopedic Video Theater & the JAAOS. I am a visual learner, so being able to observe videos that demonstrate a variety of surgical-based techniques and procedures as well as reading up on the most recent orthopedic based studies, have been crucial to my role as an orthopedic PA-C. It allows me to stay up to date with the orthopedic medical world and provide appropriate care to all my patients.
What is the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
The best advice I have ever received was from my mom and dad. They both taught me to always treat others with kindness and compassion. You never know what someone else is going through, and how our kindness can make a significant difference.
What is your go-to productivity trick?
Coffee. All jokes aside, I would say my go-to productivity trick is my clinical and surgical team members. Without these individuals’ hard work, dedication, and communication, my role as a PA-C would be ten times harder. It is crucial to have other team members to rely on in order to be the best provider I can be and allow my productivity skills to shine.
What is one thing you are currently trying to make a habit?
My faith in Jesus Christ is the foundation of my heart and soul. For Him I am grateful for everything, including the passion he has given me to become a PA-C. Each year, I set a goal/habit for myself to spend time praying and reading the Bible to grow in my relationship with Him, and this year, I am focusing on making a habit of praying for my patients.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Over the past several years I have developed a passion for flipping furniture. The thrill of taking an old, ragged, forgotten piece of furniture and turning it into a beautifully designed, remarkably splendid piece is a thrilling process. I have completed several pieces of furniture all the way from simple end tables to converting a wardrobe into a coffee bar.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I attended the annual White House Christmas Party with my sister in 2020, which was a once in a lifetime experience! This was such a special event and a memory I will cherish forever.
