Chapter 36 Video 2: Hip Arthroscopy in Patients with Acetabular Dysplasia

January 05, 2018

Contributors: Marc J Philippon, MD

Hip arthroscopy is indicated in patients with borderline acetabular dysplasia where the lateral center edge angle measurement falls between 25° and 20° on the anteroposterior pelvis radiograph. Labral hypertrophy is characteristic in patients with acetabular dysplasia. Measurement of the labral size can be performed during surgery. Labral repair procedure is performed with the goal to restore the seal mechanism. Dysplastic patients are at higher risk of severe cartilage defects on the femoral head compared to non- dysplastic patients.
