The advantages of the direct lateral lumbar interbody fusion technique for both indirect decompression and lumbar stabilization for fusion have been well described. Controversy about this technique centers on the risk of nerve injury associated with the lateral approach. In this video we will demonstrate the technique for direct lateral interbody fusion and the use of surgeon directed MMG (mechanomyography) for nerve mapping.
