Lateral Femoral Epicondylar Osteotomy: An Alternative to Balance a Genu Valgus Knee in Total Knee Arthroplasty

This video demonstrates the technique for lateral femoral epicondylar osteotomy, which is an alternative treatment option for a fixed valgus knee deformity in which substantial soft-tissue release during total knee arthroplasty fails to correct the deformity. The video reviews the literature on lateral femoral epicondylar osteotomy. The surgical technique is explained in detail using an anatomic model. The video then demonstrates the technique and its usefulness to balance flexion and extension gaps in an operating room from different views. In addition, the video presents our case series, which was exhibited on a poster during the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons 2019 Spring Meeting. The video includes radiographs and videos of representative cases.
