Radical Resection of a Proximal Femoral Ewing Sarcoma

This is a surgical video demonstrating a radical resection of a Ewing sarcoma of the proximal femur. The video discusses the case of an 18-year-old young woman who presented with a burning, sharp thigh pain that had been ongoing for 4 months. The patient had no significant medical history. MRIs and radiographs revealed an aggressive, cortically destructive lesion. Ultrasound-guided core needle biopsy was performed, and it confirmed the diagnosis of a Ewing sarcoma. After the patient was placed in an abductor brace, she returned 1 month later with a pathologic fracture due to the primary bone sarcoma. Ewing sarcomas are rare tumors that are treated with preoperative chemotherapy, followed by limb-sparing surgery or amputation and additional postoperative chemotherapy.
