Despite its prevalence, the disease process is still not clearly understood, and the various non-operative management options have yet to be proven clinically effective. When non-operative management fails to relieve symptoms, surgery is indicated. Arthroscopic treatment of calcific tendinitis has many advantages over open surgery, including enhanced visualization, the ability to treat concomitant rotator cuff pathology, and decreased morbidity and post-operative recovery. This video illustrates our arthroscopic management technique for calcific tendinitis in a patient with unusually extensive disease. The video also incorporates our method of repairing rotator cuff tears created during the course of the calcific deposit debridement. Both live and arthroscopic video, along with narration by the senior author, are featured.
