This video discusses the indications for, the technique for, and a case report of the management of benign synovial diseases of the hip, including synovial chondromatosis and pigmented villonodular synovitis. Synovial chondromatosis and pigmented villonodular synovitis are differentiated only via a pathologic evaluation because they cause similar clinical symptoms. Timely removal of all pathologic tissue is necessary to decrease morbidity and joint destruction. Hip arthroscopy allows for adequate débridement; synovectomy, if appropriate; and removal of loose bodies.
