Revolutionizing Care for Horizontal Cleavage Tears of the Meniscus

Horizontal cleavage meniscus tears are common and have been viewed as irreparable, with minimal biomechanical consequences to partial meniscectomy. However, laboratory studies have shown that leaflet resection results in a substantial increase in joint surface loading, and recent clinical studies have shown good outcomes after horizontal cleavage repair. This video provides an overview of the basic science and clinical literature on horizontal cleavage tears, discusses indications and contraindications for repair, presents a surgical case with technical tips and tricks, and presents our early clinical outcomes data on horizontal cleavage meniscus repair.
