Transtibial Pullout Repair Technique for the Management of Meniscal Root Injury
The adverse effects of a posterior root tear on the lateral meniscus has been demonstrated. Therefore, patients with a posterior root tear who do not undergo treatment may experience increased pain and dysfunction from progressive degenerative changes, which may lead to early degenerative joint disease.
Many studies have shown that posterior root lateral meniscus repair improves knee stability, decreases the risk for osteoarthritis, and replicates knee function close to its noninjured state.
This video describes posterior root lateral meniscus repair via a transtibial pullout technique with the use of SutureTape (Arthrex) and FiberWire (Arthrex), with concomitant fixation achieved with the use of a knotless push-lock anchor.
This transtibial pullout repair technique for the management of posterior root lateral meniscus tears attempts to restore meniscal function and has been biomechanically validated to restore tibiofemoral joint contact mechanics.
