Minimally Invasive Lateral Access and Robotic Spinal Fusion Surgery

This video demonstrates a safe and effective surgical technique for single-position, simultaneous anterior and posterior lumbar fusion for the management of spondylolisthesis. The technique demonstrated in this video is minimally invasive, oblique lumbar interbody fusion with posterior instrumented fusion via robotic assistance. An overview of the robotic-assisted navigation system is provided, after which the case presentation of a patient with symptomatic spondylolisthesis is discussed. The video reviews the patient’s history, physical examination findings, imaging study findings, and indications for surgical treatment. Patient positioning, robotic system registration, screw placement with robotic guidance, oblique lumbar exposure, diskectomy, interbody cage placement, and radiographic confirmation are demonstrated. This video highlights the advantage of the powerful, oblique interbody fusion technique in combination with minimally invasive, robotic-assisted posterior fusion via a single-position, lateral workflow.
