Frequently Asked Questions for the Electronic Health Record-Integrated Participation Option Powered by PatientIQ

GENERAL OVERVIEW

  1. What is the electronic health record-integrated participation option powered by PatientIQ?
The electronic health record (EHR)-integrated participation option powered by PatientIQ offers healthcare organizations a turnkey solution for registry participation. PatientIQ integrates its cloud-based platform directly with Fracture & Trauma Registry (FTR) and Shoulder & Elbow Registry (SER) participants’ EHR to provide a seamless experience that simplifies the ability to collect and submit outcomes data.

  2. How does this benefit orthopedic surgeons?
This EHR integration simplifies participation – automating everything from data aggregation to data formatting and submission.

  3. What is the difference between being powered by PatientIQ and PatientIQ being an authorized vendor?
AAOS authorized vendors are permitted by the AAOS to submit data to all five of its clinical registries. The EHR-integrated participation option powered by PatientIQ differs in that the AAOS has partnered with PatientIQ to automate FTR and SER participation, including data collection, data formatting to meet registry-required specifications, and submission. Other authorized vendors are unable to replicate this process.

  4. Will AAOS integrate the PatientIQ cloud-based platform into its other registries?
At this time, the FTR and SER are the first AAOS registries to be powered by PatientIQ.

  5. How will the EHR-integrated participation option powered by PatientIQ benefit the orthopaedic industry?
This partnership offers healthcare organizations a turnkey solution for FTR and SER participation, thus reducing barriers to tracking evidence-based practices and advancing the delivery of musculoskeletal care. It is an exciting new enrollment option that is encouraged to help improve the often-cumbersome data submission process.

  6. As a participant, is my contract with PatientIQ or AAOS?
All FTR and SER participant contracts are with the AAOS.

ABOUT PATIENTIQ

  1. What is PatientIQ?
PatientIQ is the largest and fastest-growing healthcare technology partner for deriving actionable insights from patient outcomes data. The PatientIQ platform empowers hospitals, health systems, private practices, and industry partners to systemically collect and analyze patient-reported outcomes data to improve clinical and operational performance. In addition to outcomes collection and analysis, the platform facilitates collaboration, bringing together data-driven clinicians from across the country to accelerate research and push medicine forward.

  2. How does the PatientIQ cloud-based platform work?
The PatientIQ platform simplifies outcomes collection by integrating with participating organization’s EHR and leveraging an advanced workflow engine to automatically enroll patients into personalized care pathways. These pathways engage patients with educational content and reminders and collect outcomes, satisfaction, and other health data. Then, leveraging a library of more than 500 validated outcome measures and a proprietary analytics engine, the PatientIQ platform enables clinical users to analyze trends and gain analytical insights directly within the EHR. Additionally, the PatientIQ platform serves as a network, enabling healthcare organizations to participate in multi-center studies, contribute to clinical registries, and benchmark outcomes against organizations nationwide.

HOW DOES IT WORK

  1. Do participants need to have a certain EHR for integration?
No, FTR and SER participants do not need to have a specific EHR for integration.

  2. What PatientIQ functionality do Registry participants have access to?
Functionality depends on how FTR and SER participants choose to utilize PatientIQ. Maximum functionality comes with EHR integration, which will enable PatientIQ to collect as much data as possible, translate it into the necessary specifications, and submit it to the FTR and SER on behalf of each participant. If participants do not choose EHR integration, PatientIQ will format data that has been collected and submit it on participants’ behalf.

  3. Do participants have to utilize PatientIQ for FTR and SER data submissions? Is the PatientIQ platform optional?
No, FTR and SER participants do not have to utilize PatientIQ to upload data. Participants can use an authorized vendor of their choosing or their own organization’s internal IT services. In doing so, though, sites will not receive the benefit of PatientIQ automating all aspects of the data collection, translation, and submission process. As such, enrollment with PatientIQ is encouraged but optional.

  4. Does anything change in the functionality of a current PatientIQ customer?
No, PatientIQ will continue to offer the functionality customers are accustomed to and will also ensure their care pathways are optimized for FTR and SER data collection and submission.

  5. What can participants expect to change if they already participate in the FTR or SER?
Any changes depend upon whether participants choose to leverage PatientIQ. Should they choose to benefit from the PatientIQ offering, they can expect their data collection, translation, and submission process to be simplified. The current process will not be impacted if participants choose not to use PatientIQ.

  6. Can participants submit their own data?
Yes. If preferred, PatientIQ can aggregate and format the data on behalf of participants to ensure it meets registry specifications. PatientIQ will then submit the data back to the participant for review and submission to the FTR and SER independently.

  7. Can PatientIQ submit data on participants’ behalf to other quality initiatives that they are a part of?
Yes, as an AAOS authorized vendor, PatientIQ can submit data to all AAOS registries.

ENROLLMENT

  1. Who can participate in the FTR and SER?
Hospital sites, ambulatory surgery centers (ASCs) or institutions where fracture and trauma-related incidents are treated are encouraged to participate in FTR. Sites where shoulder and elbow surgeries are performed are encouraged to participate in the SER. To learn more about the FTR, click here. To learn more about the SER, click here.

  2. What are the enrollment steps?
All participants must have the appropriate business agreements in place with the AAOS prior to any data submissions and RegistryInsights access. Once those are in place, AAOS asks for the completion of the Onboarding Workbook and Data Submission User Form to clarify roles, key contacts, surgeon information, and SFTP access. Once the AAOS receives the requested materials and confirms account information, an AAOS Registry Support Specialist will schedule a welcome call with PatientIQ, the AAOS, and the participant’s team to establish deliverables and walk through the data collection and extraction method utilizing the EHR-integrated participation option powered by PatientIQ.

  3. What is the cost?
To review the annual FTR or SER enrollment costs and learn more about one-time configuration costs, please contact an AAOS Registry Team Member via email or through our website.

  4. What happens if we need to break our contract or if we decide not to utilize PatientIQ to submit data? Who will own the historical data?
Utilizing PatientIQ for data collection and submission is not a requirement to participate in the FTR or SER. PatientIQ will establish the initial build for a participant’s site, and each participant will have the option to extract and submit to the AAOS directly. Alternately, participants may have PatientIQ manage and submit FTR and SER data on their behalf.

Once data submitted to the Registry is processed, the reports and dashboard benchmarks are considered AAOS intellectual property. If requested, AAOS can provide documentation and attestation that the original files that were uploaded have been deleted from AAOS servers.
