AAOS Now, AAOS’ trusted news magazine for members, is evolving to better serve the orthopaedic community. Beginning in January 2026, AAOS Now will transition to a digital-first format with quarterly print issues and regular digital updates — a change designed to deliver more timely, relevant, and accessible content to all members.
The next chapter for AAOS Now
This transition is designed to enhance, not reduce, Member value. AAOS Now’s new strategy reflects member preferences; industry trends; and the need for sustainable, flexible delivery of content. Most members now access news and information online, and this evolution will allow AAOS to devote more resources to digital offerings and more substantive quarterly print issues.
Members will continue to receive four high-quality print issues annually, each packed with in-depth articles and comprehensive news updates. The quarterly editions — published in March, June, September, and December — will feature highly relevant content, including topics in clinical, practice management, and research and quality; member profiles and human interest stories; and a robust calendar of events. The print issues will be designed as “must-save” resources — trusted insights members will want to revisit and share with colleagues.
The editorial priority will remain on delivering succinct, well-written articles on topics of broad member appeal. Continued content and delivery enhancements aim to place expanded information at the reader’s fingertips where and when they choose, including convenient links to other AAOS offerings to take deeper dives into topics of interest.
Timely, accessible digital content
Starting in January, AAOS Now will publish digital-only and digital-first content more regularly at aaosnow.org. Digital updates will focus on timely news, advocacy updates, breaking developments, and shorter-format pieces. This approach will enable AAOS to share important information with members as it happens, rather than waiting for the next print cycle.
Commitment to quality and member value
AAOS Now’s editorial excellence and trusted voice remain unchanged. The AAOS Now Editorial Board is committed to maintaining the same high standards and developing content that supports member education, practice success, and professional development. With this shift, AAOS will reinvest resources previously dedicated to producing and printing monthly issues into creating digital content development and more impactful print issues.
Support for member preferences
For members who value physical print, AAOS Now’s quarterly editions will be more feature-rich than before. For those who prefer digital access, more regular updates and enhanced online features will provide immediate access to breaking news and multimedia content. AAOS is also investing in new media, such as the recently launched AAOS Now podcast program and an enhanced version of the Editorial Board’s sit-down interview series with AAOS volunteer leaders, presidents from international orthopaedic societies, and lead researchers of breaking orthopaedic studies, ensuring members receive general and specialty-specific content in formats that best suit their needs.
The future of AAOS Now
This print-to-digital transition represents a significant advancement in AAOS’ commitment to delivering relevant, timely information that supports members’ clinical practice, professional development, and business needs. AAOS Now will continue to be your go-to source for trusted, high-quality content Ñ now delivered with greater flexibility and frequency.
Incoming AAOS Now Editor-in-Chief Alexandra E. Page, MD, FAAOS, noted that the Editorial Board has spearheaded the transition: “The team of orthopaedic surgeons guiding editorial strategy for AAOS Now sought input from stakeholders across the Academy, from residents to emeritus, to plan the digital transformation. We will be publishing the same amount of content as prior years but selecting the channel to optimize additional features, such as infographics or video material.”
