  • AAOS Board Takes Professional Compliance Actions

    At its meeting on Sept. 22, 2012, the Board of Directors of the American Association of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS) considered the following compliance matters not related to the AAOS Standards of Professionalism and took the actions indicated.     The AAOS Education Enhancement Fund (AEEF) Governance Committee is seeking new project ideas for development and funding. The AEEF supports innovative orthopaedic educational programs and projects that engage and benefit AAOS members.   • New Leadership Fellows Announced

    Selected by the Leadership Development Committee, the Leadership Fellows Program (LFP) class of 2013–2014 consists of 10 new LFP fellows chosen from 56 applicants. Established in December 2001, the LFP is a 1-year program that identifies future leaders and prepares them to assume roles of responsibility within AAOS. The LFP combines didactic leadership training with an ongoing mentoring program that matches the participants with an established leader within the orthopaedic community.

  • Orthopaedic Surgeon Takes to the Skies for Good Cause

    A dedicated orthopaedic surgeon, Peter E. Rork, MD, is also passionate about aviation and dogs. He started flying as a teenager and worked his way through medical school as a sightseeing and charter tour pilot and flight instructor. “I always planned to incorporate flying into my practice,” said Dr. Rork, the longest-practicing orthopaedic surgeon in Jackson Hole, Wyo.

  • “Decide to Drive” Goes on the Road

    If you’re a teenager, how do you tell drivers—your friends, your parents, or others—that they need to focus on the road? This fall and winter, the “Decide to Drive” campaign, a partnership between the AAOS and the Alliance of Automobile Manufacturers (Auto Alliance), is visiting high schools across the country to provide teens with the tools to do just that—start and continue the life- and limb-saving conversation on the dangers of distracted driving.   • From Crayon Drawings to Blueprint Designs

    More than 60 children from the area surrounding the Auburn-Gresham neighborhood let their imaginations soar during the Safe and Accessible Playground Design Day event at Faith Community of Saint Sabina. Children drew the playground of their dreams with crayons and markers in hand. The playground will become a reality on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, when hundreds of AAOS members and community volunteers to build a playground in just one day.
