World Orthopaedic Leaders Learn to Fly
In conjunction with the 2017 AAOS Annual Meeting in San Diego, the presidents of seven orthopaedic associations—all members of the Carousel group—and their spouses had the opportunity to test their flying skills in military flight simulators at the Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) Miramar.
Back in the Fast Lane
More than 2,000 athletes will compete at the 2017 Fédération Internationale de Natation (FINA) World Masters Championships, July 14–30, in Budapest, Hungary. Among the swimmers will be Matthew E. Mitchell, MD, of Casper Orthopaedic Association in Casper, Wyo. In this his third FINA competition, Dr. Mitchell will be competing in the 50-meter, 100-meter, and 200-meter freestyle events. Dr. Mitchell began swimming at the age of 7, and like most children, he was also involved in other sports.
Profiles in Compassion: Orthopaedic Humanitarians
Members of the AAOS Communications Cabinet, who select the winner of the annual AAOS Humanitarian Award, have the opportunity to see the wide range of medical outreach activities in which AAOS members engage. Some AAOS members have established personal foundations; others devote their time and efforts to a specific mission; and still others participate in international rescue efforts.
