Colles Fractures

Colles fractures occurs as a transverse fracture of the metaphyseal region of the distal radius, approximately 25 to 40 mm proximal to the radiocarpal joint. Colles fractures are associated with dorsal displacement and angulation of the distal fragment. Colles fractures are sustained during high-impact trauma; however, Colles fractures often result from low- to moderate-impact trauma, such as a fall from a standing height, in older adults, particularly females. The management of distal radius fractures is dependent on many factors, which include the severity and stability of the fracture, bone quality, patient age, comorbidities, and functional status. Therefore, management is either nonsurgical or surgical. This video describes nonsurgical and surgical management of Colles fractures and reviews the literature.
