AAOS is excited to announce the release of a new patient education initiative: Supporting Collaborative, Physician-Led Healthcare Teams. Designed to empower patients and enhance their understanding of the orthopaedic care team structure, this initiative reinforces the critical role of physician-led teams in delivering safe, effective, and coordinated care.
The initiative features three patient-facing resources: a fact sheet, a visually engaging infographic, and a succinct educational video. Together, these tools highlight the roles and expertise of orthopaedic surgeons and their multidisciplinary teams, which may include anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, surgical technologists, physical therapists, and trainees such as residents and fellows.
AAOS emphasizes that orthopaedic surgeons lead these collaborative teams to ensure optimal outcomes through expertise, transparency, and communication. The resources encourage patients to feel empowered in their care by understanding the credentials, training, and unique skills of each team member.
These materials are now accessible online on the AAOS website, as well as on OrthoInfo.com. For more information and to access the resources, visit aaos.org/quality/healthcare-safety.
