General Information

Why did the AAOS decide to cancel its Annual Meeting?
Our team, like many of you, had been eagerly anticipating and preparing for this year’s meeting. After much consideration and discussion, the Academy Board of Directors made the difficult decision to cancel the 2020 Annual Meeting scheduled for March 24-28, 2020 at Orlando’s Orange County Convention Center.

The ongoing spread of coronavirus (COVID-19) has been a serious concern for us all, and its implications have substantially affected the logistics of the meeting. The health, safety and well-being of the AAOS global community is our highest priority.

What happens now? Will the meeting be rescheduled?
Meetings the size of the Academy’s are planned years in advance, with hundreds of faculty members involved in planning sessions and research, as well as careful coordination with cities large enough to accommodate thousands of people at once. As such, rescheduling is not an option. However, while we might not be able to meet live and in person, we are committed to bringing the latest in orthopaedic education and research directly to our members.

I was scheduled to attend a committee meeting. Will it still take place?
The AAOS Board of Directors and leadership team are reviewing requirements of each committee meeting. We will share more information about the logistics for hosting these meetings and ask that you continue to hold the same meeting date and time for now. Information about all committee meetings will be sent from your AAOS staff liaison.

Scientific Programming & Education

If there are virtual sessions, when will those be scheduled?
The largest gathering of orthopaedic surgeons, researchers, and allied health professionals, the AAOS 2020 Annual Meeting was set to deliver the opportunity to Engage in Excellence across education, innovation and collaboration all at one time. We appreciate your patience as we work to identify all the options available to us. More information about virtual sessions will be posted to

What will happen with simultaneous publications and abstracts? Do embargo rules still apply? How do we handle this?
We are very disappointed that the educational content for our meeting will not be presented in person. As with any embargo, specific conditions must be met and with the content not being presented live, the conditions are not met.

Should I still prepare for my session or presentation?
The Academy strongly encourages faculty to continue with preparations. We are working hard on virtual options and will be communicating more soon.

Who can I contact for more information?
Please email and a member of our team will get back to you in 24-48 hours. Thank you for your patience, as we continue to work through all details.
