AAOS Continuing Medical Education program receives highest accreditation recognition

ROSEMONT, Ill. (January 10, 2017) — The American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the leading provider of musculoskeletal education to orthopaedic surgeons and other health professionals, received an accreditation with commendation from the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME). This recognition rewards the Academy for its continued commitment to advancing post-graduate medical education in a changing health environment and ranks the AAOS among the most prestigious professional medical societies and medical schools offering continuing medical education.

“The Academy is both proud and excited to learn of this news,” said Gerald R. Williams, Jr., MD, President, AAOS. “Our organization was founded on the importance of continuing medical education (CME) as a way to take the best possible care of our patients. We continue to offer a very robust CME program that advances the profession while demonstrating the impact of education on healthcare professionals and patients.”

Staff worked on required materials for more than 18 months to ensure all ACCME requirements were fulfilled, including a detailed self-study report, evidence of performance in-practice and an accreditation interview. The AAOS was recognized as a CME provider that demonstrates compliance in all criteria and the accreditation policies. The accreditation is in effect until November 2022.

“With a variety of different CME programs like webinars, in-person courses taught by world-renowned faculty or the upcoming 2017 AAOS Annual Meeting, and the introduction of new online courses, there is always something for every learning style or preference,” said Evan Flatow, MD, Chair, AAOS Council on Education. “The Academy continues to be your most trusted source for lifelong learning.”
