Track 2 Recipients

Track 2 Grants are intended to support programs/events in an orthopaedic surgery training program or academic practice settingwith a focus on cultivating an orthopaedic culture and workforce which supports all and represents the communities we serve, whether through recruitment, retention or other efforts.

  • ECHO: Early Exposure in College and High School Students in Orthopedics - $6,800
    • This grant will support a nine-week mentorship and career exploration initiative designed to expose high school and college students from various backgrounds, to the field of orthopaedic surgery. Led by two female medical students at SUNY Downstate, under the guidance of faculty mentors, the program will offer a structured, interactive learning experience. Program components include case-based lectures with orthopaedic surgeons, hands-on skill-building workshops (casting, sawbones, and suturing), mentorship sessions with medical students, and college and medical school preparation sessions - including MCAT/SAT panels and personal statement workshops. Additionally, the program will provide networking opportunities to foster professional growth and representation in orthopaedic surgery.
  • J. Robert Gladden Orthopaedic Society - $20,000
    • JFOS is a two-day symposium that connects newly matched interns, residents, fellows, and attendings for mentorship, skills training, and networking, featuring cadaver labs, bioskills sessions, lectures, and hands-on workshops, while also collaborating with local institutions and leaders. The event includes orientation for interns, educational resources, surveys for longitudinal research, and opportunities for professional and social engagement.
  • L. Nathan Gause - Truman Medical Center - $16,310
    • This program will support surgeons who are completing training and new in practice to provide them with the tools to succeed in their academic environments. The program will nurture a workforce that reflects the communities we care for and expands to career development support and networking opportunities for all aspiring and practicing clinicians.
  • Ponce Medical School Foundation - $7,020
    • The grant will help build a robust academic and mentorship structure to retain an orthopaedic workforce in Puerto Rico and attract orthopaedic subspecialists as core faculty. This initiative will advance workforce development, improve patient outcomes, and reduce longstanding disparities in orthopaedic care.
  • Pride Orthopaedics Inc. - $7,500
    • The 2nd Annual Pride Ortho Research Symposium, held in conjunction with the AAOS Annual Meeting, will spotlight health equity research in orthopaedics, featuring podium and poster presentations by trainees selected through a rigorous, blinded review process. The event aims to foster mentorship and professional development, expanding opportunities for emerging scholars committed to advancing inclusive musculoskeletal care.
  • Ruth Jackson Orthopaedic Society - $12,000
    • This grant supports attendance at AAOS and RJOS Annual Meetings to provide valuable opportunities for mentorship, networking, hands-on learning, and exposure to role models.
