Occupational Health and Workers' Compensation Committee

Overall Purpose/Mission

Monitor changes in workers' compensation systems and job safety requirements as they apply to the orthopaedic surgeon and the patient.

 

Charges

1. Align all activities to support execution and achievement of the mission, vision, goals, strategic objectives and metrics of the Strategic Plan and conduct all business in accordance with the Core Values as adopted by the Board of Directors.

2. Monitor and analyze relevant trends and changes in the various workers' compensation systems and job safety requirements as they apply to the orthopaedic surgeon and patient, develop strategies for appropriate Association involvement.

3. Monitor and analyze the effect of managed care on workers' compensation and occupational health systems.

4. Maintain communication and establish cooperative efforts with other professional organizations interested in workers' compensation systems and occupational health issues.

5. Draft proposed position and advisory statements, and develop health policy updates, articles and other educational materials on timely issues in workers' compensation and occupational health.

6. Develop programs and relationships to improve the quality of musculoskeletal care in the area of occupational health.

7. Act as an information resource to the Fellowship on occupational health issues.

8. Identify occupational hazards for orthopaedic surgeons, and associated medical personnel, and develop a program to increase their workplace safety.

9. In concert with the Evidence-Based Practice Committee, develop evidence-based practice and utilization review guidelines for the treatment of patients injured in the workplace.

Term of Office:

For chair, two (2) years; eligible for reappointment for one (1) additional two (2) year term.

For members, two (2) years; eligible for reappointment for one (1) additional two (2) year term.
