Fracture and Trauma Registry Steering Committee

Mission Statement:

The purpose of the Fracture and Trauma Registry is to improve care and outcomes for patients with fractures and traumatic injuries through the collection, analysis, and dissemination of high-quality data. This registry aims to support best practices, enhance patient safety, and foster research into injury patterns, treatment outcomes, and quality improvement in orthopaedic trauma care.

Strategy:

We will improve orthopaedic trauma care quality by establishing a comprehensive, centralized record of injury, surgery, and outcome data. The FTR will serve as a research- grade resource for investigating injury patterns, procedural outcomes, risk factors, and functional recovery. FTR data will provide insights that support clinical decision-making and quality initiatives in orthopaedic trauma care, while facilitating maximum participation through streamlined data entry and integration with clinical workflows.

Charges:

  • Align all activities to support execution and achievement of the mission, vision, goals, strategic objectives and metrics of the Strategic Plan and conduct all business in accordance with the Core Values as adopted by the Board of Directors.
  • Infrastructure Development: Develop and maintain a standardized, robust infrastructure for the collection of high-quality data on fractures and traumatic injuries. Ensure data capture includes patient demographics, injury details, treatment methods, and outcome measures.
  • Promotion of Research and Quality Improvement: Leverage registry data to enable research into injury patterns, procedural outcomes, quality of care, and recovery. Support quality improvement initiatives by providing data that informs best practices and aids in establishing benchmarks for orthopaedic trauma care.
  • Facilitation of Broad Participation: Facilitate maximum participation from AAOS and OTA members by minimizing data entry burden and integrating registry tools within clinical workflows. Work with sites to address barriers to data submission, aiming to expand registry reach and representation.
  • Flexibility for Evolving Needs: Maintain the flexibility to modify and adapt the FTR as trauma care and data collection standards evolve, ensuring relevance and responsiveness to the latest research and quality standards.
  • Identification of Knowledge Gaps and Development of Guidelines: Utilize collected data to identify knowledge gaps, inform the development of clinical guidelines, and define quality measures for fracture and trauma care, with the goal of improving patient outcomes and standardizing care practices.
  • Advancement of Patient Safety and Quality of Care: Promote patient safety and reduce morbidity through improved understanding of injury management, early intervention strategies, and optimized treatment protocols for fractures and trauma cases.
  • Support for Longitudinal Outcome Tracking: Enable the longitudinal tracking of patient outcomes, including functional and quality-of-life measures, to provide insights into the long- term impact of orthopaedic trauma care and to support continuous improvement in recovery pathways.
