How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
Through various AAOS networking opportunities, I have been mentored by some fantastic surgeons in my early career. Mentorship is so critical for development and growth. Being a Launchpad Crew Chief has also allowed me to reflect on my early career and pay forward all of the things that have helped me be successful to the next generation of surgeons.

As an Active Fellow, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I was previously the AAOS AJRR Research Fellow, so I used the registry analytics site very frequently. You can also look at institutional and personal metrics. This is very helpful for identifying trends both locally and nationally. I also think the coding and reimbursement section of the website is excellent. No one ever teaches you billing and coding in residency or fellowship, but these are critical as an attending.

What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
I've gotten some great advice from so many people over the years. I was talking to a Fellow at an AAOS meeting in San Diego who said his best piece of advice was, "Work doesn't care about home and home doesn't care about work." This really resonated with me. As a surgeon you need to be able to be present at home, even if you had a tough day. Your family matters the most. You also need to learn how to say no to certain things (in addition to saying yes to others).

What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I pride myself on efficiency. One great tip is pre-templating your office and OR notes beforehand, so you aren't spending hours after clinic or surgery finishing notes. Get to work early and use that time to get things done!

What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Allocating more time for self-care, like exercising. We can quickly fall into the trap of sleep, work, sleep, work. We need to be able to prioritize and compartmentalize each part of our life to ensure we are staying healthy.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Spending time with my wife and two daughters: Charlotte (9) and Remi (5). I also enjoy cooking and baking.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I have never had a cup of coffee in my life. Just don't like the taste!
