How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
After completing my fellowship, I found my first job through the AAOS Career Center — a position I have proudly held for 11 years. AAOS has continued to nourish my career by providing updated medical education and excellent annual conferences.
As an Affiliate Orthopaedic Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I frequently use the Video Theater to refine my surgical skills, along with the Self-Assessment Exams and JAAOS.
What's the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
My mentor, Dr. Jose Rodriguez, advised me during my fellowship to write down every step of an operation and revisit those notes before the next case to identify areas for improvement. He taught me that you are allowed to make a thousand mistakes, but you should not repeat the same mistake.
What's your go-to productivity trick?
I tackle the hardest tasks first. While many surgeons schedule primary cases first and revisions for the end of the day, I do the opposite. I start with complex non-infectious revisions while my mind is fresh to reduce stress and the chance of errors.
What's one thing you're currently trying to make a habit?
Reading every day.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
Watching Pokémon series and movies with my son.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I am married to a wonderful woman who sacrificed her own career to support mine and care for our family.
