How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
I think it is super important to stay up to date on the latest technology, research, and changes to orthopaedic care and surgical techniques in order to be a well-rounded provider. AAOS has enabled me to provide credible sources to my patients and has made me a more knowledgeable clinician.
As an Allied member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I like the monthly newsletter as I will print and post articles in our patient rooms. I also provide patients with these articles to take home, highlighting the information I find most patient-friendly! It is a great touch.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
I have learned so much from my attending physician, Dr. Anup Chattha, that it is hard to pick one piece of advice. I would say I’ve learned more by example. He has taught me how to be an effective leader through compassionate and diligent care. He always takes the extra moment to connect with patients on a personal level. He takes the time to thank staff and our team. And he never rushed through patient visits, even it means running a little behind! His patients and providers look up to him so much. He’s been a great role model for me.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I make it a habit to get all of my work done in the office so I can enjoy family time after work. I find that bringing my computer in the room to show patients their imaging and orders is helpful for both of us in order to ensure they feel as much a part of the treatment plan as possible. This helps to get my orders signed immediately as well!
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Listening to Orthobullets on my way to work.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I love cheering on my alma mater, Clemson University, and staying active with my husband, dog, and new baby girl. Lexington, KY, has been a wonderful place to start our family, with fantastic parks, downtown life, and horses. Worth a visit!
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
In my spare time, I am a swim instructor at the YMCA! Being from the east coast, I feel it’s so important to learn how to swim for safety, and it’s a great exercise option for our patients.
