If you were mentoring a new member, what important advice would you give them as they progress in their career?
I recommend that early-career orthopaedic surgeons, and others, speak up about creative and innovative ideas, and persist if they aren’t initially received with enthusiasm.  There is no one way to shape your career. Be aware of your strengths and use them wisely to have an impact.

What aspect of retirement surprised you the most?
I am surprised at how energized I am after retiring from orthopaedic surgery, and how I am now working more than I ever have before.  I thoroughly enjoy leading a team, and having an impact on education, house staff, and having a voice in quality and safety.  My efforts are appreciated by the institution for their impact on education, quality, and safety.

What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
In my current role, the weekends are relatively free.  I exercise, garden, and read. Post-pandemic, I am traveling more during vacations.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
When I actually retire, I look forward to making pottery and raising a dog.
