How has the AAOS helped you throughout your career?
The ResStudy question bank was invaluable throughout residency for both yearly studying and ultimately for board preparation. The AAOS board review course was also instrumental for board studying.
As a Fellowship Member, which AAOS resources do you use most and why?
I currently use the JAAOS's review articles and the Orthopedic Video Theatre to stay current and prepare for cases.
What’s the best advice you were ever given? Who was it from?
I’ve benefited from the guidance of great mentors over the years, who’ve provided fantastic advice. A recent example that stands out was from my fellowship director, who stated, “You have to embrace the stress of practice and keep pushing through. We’ve all been there. Lean on us and you’ve got this.” Essentially, our line of work is inherently stressful. However, with great training and strong mentors in your corner, nothing is insurmountable.
What’s your go-to productivity trick?
I am a fan of to-do lists and creating action plans. Prior to tackling any tasks, I like to break them down into smaller segments to make them seem less onerous and more easily track my progress.
What’s one thing you’re currently trying to make a habit?
Listening to at least two books a month, with one being a nonfiction book. During fellowship, I often have long drives, so this has created a perfect opening of time to think and learn about non-orthopedic topics.
What hobbies do you enjoy in your spare time?
I love spending time with my husband and two daughters exploring local parks and museums or staying at home to do science projects.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that not many people know?
I did three different international home stays, and at one point could speak 4 languages.
